Our mission
The Jefferson Land Trust Natural History Society was founded in 2012 to foster active exploration, appreciation, understanding, and conservation of the diverse natural environments of the Olympic Peninsula and beyond.
Our vision
Activities of the Natural History Society are co-sponsored by the Land Trust, and include nature outings, a natural history book club, and other related activities, in particular those that support the stewardship principles of the Land Trust.
How we got together
In spring of 2012, Jefferson Land Trust offered the Northwest Naturalist Program for the first time, coordinated by Erik Kingfisher. Six volunteer naturalists guided eighteen local residents through a different local ecosystem every Saturday for nine weeks. We were all enchanted with the natural beauty and diversity of the Olympic Peninsula and when the course ended, we didn’t want it to stop. We decided to form the Natural History Society to continue our joy in learning.
